Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday attended commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution in Budapest, at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Magyar.
The commemorative ceremony, held at the Hungarian Parliament, was opened by Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer.
Following the performance of the Hungarian national anthem, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the heroes of the 1956 Revolution.
Addressing the gathering, Hungarian President András Baka highlighted the historical significance of the anniversary.
Congratulatory messages marking the occasion were extended to Hungary by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, and former NATO Secretary General and current Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
Magyar also addressed the Hungarian people and guests gathered at Lajos Kossuth Square, reflecting on the ideals of the 1956 Revolution and emphasising that the struggle for freedom remains an ongoing process.
