Giorgi Sosiashvili, the deputy chair of the parliamentary committee on education, science, and youth affairs, on Saturday said that the Georgian people had mandated that anti-constitutional forces should not be allowed to operate in the country’s political arena, describing them as “enemies of the country” amid a constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban five opposition parties.
In his remarks, Sosiashvili expressed confidence that the Constitutional Court would make a decision based on strong arguments and aimed at safeguarding the country’s future.
“We see how focused they are on informing on their own country and constantly turning to their patrons with requests to impose sanctions on Georgia. They are working against their own state and engaging in hostile activities. They have not accepted the choice of the Georgian people either”, he said.
“I am confident that these strong arguments will lead to a decision aimed at ensuring a safe future for our people and improving the political environment, so that the country’s political arena is never again polluted by such radicals or their actions against the Georgian people”, Sosiashvili concluded.
The Constitutional Court is scheduled to begin substantive hearings next week on the lawsuit seeking to ban five opposition parties.
