Giorgi Kakhiani, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, said on Thursday that the European Commission’s 2026 Enlargement Report had been prepared unilaterally, describing it as subjective and unfair.
In his remarks, Kakhiani argued that the report relied more on political assessments than on the actual situation on the ground.
“Both the European Commission’s structures and the Georgian side should be involved in the process, as has been the practice in previous years. This report, however, was prepared unilaterally and is therefore subjective, unfair, and based more on political assessments than on the actual situation on the ground”, the official said.
On Wednesday, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in response to the European Commission’s report on the progress made by EU candidate countries, including Georgia, towards membership.
The Ministry said that factual inaccuracies and flawed assessments in the report had contributed to the spread of anti-Georgian narratives, further limiting opportunities for constructive engagement and dialogue between Georgia and the European Union.
