Amid ongoing geopolitical changes in the region, strengthening peace and stability among South Caucasus countries is particularly important, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Friday.
Addressing the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, Kobakhidze reaffirmed Georgia’s longstanding commitment to peaceful coexistence and dialogue in the region.
He noted that Georgia and Azerbaijan shared centuries-old ties of friendship and good neighbourly relations, with their peoples living side by side for generations while respecting each other’s traditions and national interests.
“I am pleased to welcome the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia and, as co-chair, open the 11th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan”, he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that mutual respect had served as a solid foundation for the partnership between the two countries, which was further reinforced by regular high-level political dialogue.
“Our strategic partnership is accompanied by regular high-level political dialogue. In this regard, I would like to highlight the recent visit to Georgia by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which once again reaffirmed our mutual interest in developing and further deepening bilateral relations”, Kobakhidze said.
“Against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical changes in the region, strengthening peace and stability among South Caucasus countries is particularly important. Georgia has always been a staunch supporter of peaceful coexistence and dialogue in the region. Accordingly, we welcome the peace process launched between our neighbouring countries and hope that it will pave the way for lasting peace and economic development in the region”, the Prime Minister concluded.
