Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday addressed the Sofia Economic Forum on Monday, saying Georgia needed fair treatment from the European Union and a realistic assessment of the current situation.
Botchorishvili said the government’s primary objective was to maintain stability in the country.
“The situation is quite difficult, and first and foremost, we need fair treatment from the European Union and a realistic assessment of the current situation. Georgia’s goal is to maintain stability in the country. Since we are neither an EU nor a NATO member, we must act independently”, she said.
“Our challenges have increased since the war in Ukraine began, and our position has become clearer. We must exercise even greater caution in protecting our country. Georgia’s sole objective is to maintain stability and competitiveness. I can say with full responsibility that this is our government’s position. We want to maintain stability in the country. That is precisely our goal”, Botchorishvili continued.
She also highlighted Georgia’s strong economic growth in recent years.
“We must focus on infrastructure, social policy, and everything that will bring Georgia closer to European standards and lay a solid foundation for European integration. Ultimately, we all know that every candidate country has a great deal of work to do, and this does not happen overnight”, Botchorishvili concluded.
