Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Saturday that no one had the right to interfere with the independence of the judiciary.
Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze claimed that Euro-bureaucrats’ interference in the independence of the judiciary was an act that directly contradicted traditional European values.
“No one has the right to interfere with the independence of the judiciary - which is precisely what these specific individuals, these bureaucrats, are attempting to do. This is a deeply regrettable development and stands in direct opposition to traditional European values”, the PM said.
“I urge everyone to refrain from interfering with our independent judiciary. They should read the claim, then read the ruling, and only on that basis should they offer any legal commentary. Making political comments is, quite simply, nothing more than gross political interference in the independence of the judiciary”, he concluded.
