Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday said her visit to Canada provided an opportunity to once again highlight Georgia’s efforts to support the international order, Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, as well as its initiatives to support Ukrainian children.
Botchorishvili made the remarks to Georgian journalists in Canada while summarising her visit.
She emphasised that it was important that Canada had, in a way, taken the lead, together with Norway, in a coalition focused on humanitarian issues related to the war in Ukraine.
“A similar ministerial meeting is being held for the second time. Georgia was invited to this event by the Canadian Foreign Minister, and this was an opportunity for us to once again highlight what Georgia is doing to support the international order, Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and what efforts Georgia is making to take certain steps in support of Ukrainian children”, she said.
“Unfortunately, in recent years, there have been campaigns against Georgia that have meant these efforts by Georgia have largely gone unnoticed, or no one has focused on them. It should be said that Georgia is second to none when it comes to humanitarian support for Ukraine”, Botchorishvili continued.
She noted that Georgia had hosted Ukrainian children on numerous occasions.
“Hundreds of Ukrainian children spend their summers in summer camps in Georgia. Several countries do this for Ukraine, and Georgia is among them. Georgia has also provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine on numerous occasions”, Botchorishvili said.
Botchorishvili, at the invitation of her Canadian counterpart, participated in the Second International Conference on the Return of Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians and Prisoners of War. Bilateral meetings with her counterparts were also held as part of the event.
